Minor Boy Shows Heroic Courage, Saves Two Siblings from Drowning in Baitarani River

Jajpur,  November 7, 2025. In a heart-stopping moment at Garadeswar ghat on the Baitarani river, a young boy’s bravery saved two children from drowning, while a third remains missing.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning when Preetiprajna Mishra (12), her cousin Rudranarayan (10), and her sister Arpita (12) went to bathe at the riverbank.

Tragedy struck when Rudra slipped into deep water. In a desperate attempt to save him, Preetiprajna and Arpita followed, only to be swept away by the current.

Witnessing the scene, Satya Prakash Sethy, an eighth-grade student fishing nearby, sprang into action. He dove into the river and successfully rescued Rudra and Arpita.

Despite his efforts, Preetiprajna could not be located. Rescue teams from Jajpur and Sukinda, including ODRAF personnel, launched an intensive search operation. However, strong currents and fading daylight forced them to suspend the mission temporarily.

Local MLA Sujata Sahu visited the site, coordinated with district officials, and urged the Akhuapada barrage authorities to reduce water discharge to aid the search.

She also met the grieving parents, Rashmiranjan and Rashmita Mishra, offering condolences and support.

The community has hailed Satya Prakash’s courage, calling for safety measures at river ghats to prevent future tragedies.
