Minor Allegedly Assaulted in Custody at Pirahat Police Station; Father Seeks Justice

Bhadrak, November 9, 2025 A disturbing case of alleged police brutality has emerged from Pirahat police station in Bhadrak district, where a 14-year-old boy was reportedly subjected to third-degree assault during a theft investigation.

The incident occurred on November 2, when the minor and his father were summoned to the station following a complaint about a stolen mobile phone.

According to the father, the boy was dragged outside by a sub-inspector, beaten severely, and verbally abused with caste-based slurs. Another staff member allegedly struck the boy’s chest with a pipe.

Inside the station, the minor was reportedly forced to remove his clothes and was detained until 1 AM. Following the alleged assault, he was admitted to Bhadrak District Hospital for treatment.

The father has since filed complaints with the Superintendent of Police and the Human Rights Commission, demanding action based on CCTV footage from the station.

Pirahat IIC Rosalin Behera confirmed the minor and his father were called for questioning but denied any physical abuse.

The case has sparked outrage and calls for accountability, with human rights advocates urging a transparent investigation.
