Minor Abduction Survivor Vanishes Again from Odisha Shelter, Sparks Safety Concerns

Jagatsinghpur, (OT Webdesk)— A minor girl who had previously survived an abduction in March 2024 has gone missing again, this time from a government-supported Sakhi Centre in Jagatsinghpur.

Her father has filed a formal complaint with the district Superintendent of Police, alleging negligence and a second abduction.

The girl was initially kidnapped by a woman and her son, and after failed attempts to get help from local police, the family approached the Chief Minister’s Office.

This intervention led to her rescue and the arrest of the accused. She was subsequently placed in the Sakhi Centre for protection.

According to her father, the shelter authorities informed him that his daughter had been missing since June 21, 2024.

He claims the centre had earlier asked him to take her home, but when he arrived, they said she had disappeared. “My daughter is being kidnapped repeatedly,” he stated in his complaint.

Sakhi Centre in-charge Purnachandra Mall said the girl went missing after stepping outside to use the restroom and denied any negligence. He added that local police were notified immediately.

The incident has raised serious questions about the safety protocols and oversight at state-run shelters for vulnerable individuals. As of now, police officials have not issued an official statement.
