Bhubaneswar, Apr 1: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has achieved a record coal production of 225.2 million tonnes in the financial year 2024-25, marking an impressive growth of 9 per cent over the previous fiscal year.
Reaffirming its commitment to energy security, MCL also recorded its highest-ever coal dispatch of 210.5 million tonnes, reflecting a 6 percent increase over FY 2023-24. The dispatch to the power sector rose from 150 million tonnes in FY 2024 to 158 million tonnes in FY 2025, registering a 5 percent growth.
In a remarkable achievement, MCL recorded a 22 percent increase in overburden removal, reaching 338 million cubic meters (MCuM) compared to the previous fiscal year. This will enable the company to enhance coal production in the current fiscal year.
According to MCL sources, the financial year has been a period of significant achievements, with new milestones set in all three key performance areas—coal production, dispatch, and overburden removal (OBR).
MCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Uday A. Kaole congratulated the officers, staff, employees of contracted companies, and other stakeholders for their contributions to this achievement.
MCL is also the largest corporate social responsibility (CSR) spender in Odisha, allocating approximately Rs.215 crore in FY 2025 to various initiatives aimed at the social and economic upliftment of communities, particularly in remote and peripheral coalfield areas.
He stated that MCL remains the largest coal-producing company in the country, with mining operations spread across Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul districts of Odisha.
