Mayurbhanj: Two Minor Girls Drown in Pond, Community in Shock

Mayurbhanj district of Odisha was struck by tragedy on Friday when two minor girls drowned in a village pond.

The victims, identified as Subhasandhya Nayak (7) and Rajalaxmi Sankhual (8), were classmates at Dandaghat Dehuri Sahi School.

After returning from school, the girls went to bathe in a pond near their village, Nachhipur in Barakhaladi, despite family advice to use a hand pump.

Relatives noticed them struggling in the water and rushed to rescue them.

Both were immediately taken to Kaptipada hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The incident has left the local community grief‑stricken.

Police registered a case and handed over the bodies to the families after completing the necessary formalities.
