Mayurbhanj Road Blockade Turns Violent: 34 Arrested, 28 Women Among Them

Tensions flared in Sanaposi village of Mayurbhanj district after allegations surfaced that a youth from Binjhua village misbehaved with a minor Adivasi girl during the Bahaparb festival.

Outraged villagers demanded immediate police action, leading to a massive road blockade on the Bahalda bypass of the national highway.

Hundreds of protesters, including many women, clashed with police officers, pelting stones and attacking them with sticks and rods.

Several officers sustained injuries, and the Bahalda Tehsildar’s vehicle was overturned and damaged in the chaos.

Police registered a case against more than 60 individuals for rioting, assaulting public servants, and property damage. On Friday, 34 accused—including 28 women and 6 men—were produced in court.

Authorities have assured strict action against the original accused in the misconduct case while appealing for calm in the region.
