Mayurbhanj Honored with Best Performing District Award for Tribal Empowerment

New Delhi, October 25, 2025: Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has been conferred the prestigious Best Performing District Award under the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, a national initiative aimed at empowering tribal communities and advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu to Mayurbhanj Collector Hemakanta Say during a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan on October 17. The recognition celebrates the district’s outstanding implementation of the Abhiyan across all 1,363 villages in the region.

Launched as a pilot program, the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan is built on three foundational pillars—Adi Karmayogi (government officials), Adi Sehyogi (motivated youth), and Adi Sathi (local villagers). Mayurbhanj’s administration established over 400 Adi Seva Kendras and developed thematic village action plans with active participation from tribal leaders, ensuring inclusive and responsive governance.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs officially launched the Abhiyan in August 2025, envisioning it as the world’s largest tribal grassroots leadership initiative.

The program emphasises capacity-building workshops, collaborative development planning, and the principles of Sewa (Service), Sankalp (Resolve), and Samarpan (Dedication).

In a double triumph for the state, Odisha also received the Best Performing State Award, reinforcing its commitment to participatory governance and tribal welfare.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward inclusive development and grassroots transformation.
