Massive Rush at Barabati Stadium as Offline Ticket Sales Begin for India–South Africa T20
Cuttack witnessed an extraordinary surge of cricket fans on Friday morning as offline ticket sales for the much‑anticipated India–South Africa T20 clash at Barabati Stadium kicked off.
Supporters began arriving as early as Thursday night, braving the cold to secure seats for the December 9 showdown.
By sunrise, queues had stretched around the stadium, with hundreds of young enthusiasts joining the crowd. Many had travelled from distant districts, underscoring the immense popularity of the fixture.
To manage the swelling numbers, the Commissionerate Police introduced a new crowd‑control system.
Nearly 800 metres of steel barricades were installed in a serpentine pattern, guiding fans from the OCA Cricket Academy entrance to the counters.
Separate lanes were designated for spectators and police deployment, while the ticket zone was declared a strict “no‑man’s land” to prevent overcrowding.
Ticket sales officially began at 9 a.m., with only buyers allowed near the counters.
Authorities also prohibited overnight queues to ensure safety. Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo urged fans to remain calm, acknowledging that demand far exceeded supply.
He assured that practice sessions on December 8 and fan parks would be set up for public viewing. CCTV monitoring has also been deployed to maintain order.
