Massive Fire Disrupts Biochemistry Lab at MKCG Hospital, Sparks Safety Concerns
Berhampur,(OT webdesk) — A major fire broke out at the biochemistry laboratory of MKCG Medical College and Hospital early Sunday morning, reportedly triggered by a short circuit in an air conditioning unit.
The blaze erupted around 2 AM beneath the Diagnostic Centre, causing extensive damage to chemical stocks and testing equipment.
Firefighters responded swiftly and contained the flames before they could spread further. No casualties were reported, but the incident has severely disrupted routine blood sample testing, impacting patient care.
Hospital staff allege that malfunctioning AC units have become a recurring hazard, citing previous fire incidents in the gynaecology ward and super speciality block. The latest mishap has intensified calls for a comprehensive safety audit and improved maintenance protocols.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement. An investigation is underway to assess the damage and determine accountability.
