Maoist Leader Sukru Surrenders in Odisha

Kandhamal: In a major breakthrough for Odisha’s anti-Maoist campaign, the state’s most wanted Maoist leader, Sukru, has reportedly surrendered before Kandhamal police along with four associates.

Sukru, who carried a reward of ₹55 lakh on his head, was a key figure in Maoist operations across southern Odisha.

He led the dreaded Eighth Company and was actively involved in several violent incidents in the region.

During the surrender, he handed over an AK-47 rifle, marking a symbolic step away from armed rebellion.

While official confirmation from Odisha Police is awaited, sources suggest that Sukru’s decision could significantly weaken Maoist networks in Kandhamal and adjoining districts.

Security experts believe his surrender may encourage other cadres to abandon arms, especially as the government has set March 31 as the target date to make the country Maoist-free.

The development has already drawn national attention, with major outlets highlighting its potential impact on the state’s long-running battle against left-wing extremism.
