Mancheswar Railway Workshop Fire: Blaze Destroys Materials Worth Crores in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, March 12: A massive fire broke out at the Mancheswar Railway Wagon Repair Workshop late Thursday evening, destroying valuable stocks of timber, plywood, foam, and repair equipment worth crores.

The blaze reportedly began inside a passenger coach undergoing welding work by contract laborers around 8 pm. Sparks are suspected to have ignited flammable materials stored nearby, quickly spreading to vegetation and other supplies.

Alerted by local villagers, the Railway Protection Force rushed to the site, and multiple fire engines from Chandrasekharpur, Kalpana, and CRP Square joined the operation.

Five fire tenders battled the flames for nearly an hour before bringing the situation under control.

Both scrap and fresh raw materials were consumed in the inferno, causing significant damage to the workshop’s inventory.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause and assess the extent of losses.
