
Man sentenced to 25 years RI in rape case by POCSO court
Bhubaneswar, July 31 (UNI) A POCSO court has sentenced accused Udaya Naik to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case declared as a red flag by the Odisha Crime Branch.
A case under section 65(2)/351(2) BNS /4 POCSO Act was registered against accused Udaya Naik with Pallahara police station on the basis of a complaint lodged by Subana Nayak.
Odisha Crime Branch sources said the offence was committed on July 20, 2024, and the FIR was registered on July 21, 2024.
After investigation, the Crime Branch, which treated the case as Red Flag, submitted a charge sheet on September 17, 2024 and charges were framed against the accused on February 10, 2025.
The trial was monitored on a regular basis, and the judgment was pronounced last Tuesday.
The POCSO court of Angul, while holding Udit Nayak guilty of committing rape, convicted him under the provisions of the newly enacted laws U/s- 64(2)(f)/65(2) of BNS r.w Sec-06 POCSO Act
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.. 30,000 on the convict and ordered that in default to payment of fine, he would further undergo R.I for 1 year for the offence under section 06 POCSO Act.
