Malkangiri Police Seize 1,025 Kg Ganja, Driver Arrested Under NDPS Act
In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, Malkangiri police seized 1,025 kilograms of ganja from an Ashok Leyland truck near MV‑96 junction on National Highway‑326.
The contraband was packed in 41 plastic bags and was being transported to Hyderabad, Telangana.
The driver, identified as Jhavar Singh (42) from Rajasthan, was arrested at the spot. During interrogation, Singh admitted to smuggling ganja for profit. Authorities suspect a larger network is involved in the illegal trade.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act (Sections 20(b)(ii)(C), 27‑A, and 29).
Inspector Purnima Tete filed the complaint, while Sub‑Inspector Subrat Kumar Panigrahi is leading the investigation.
Police have intensified efforts to trace the masterminds behind the racket.
