Malkangiri Bus Accident: Several Injured After OSRTC Vehicle Overturns
A government-run Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus overturned near the Salur bypass in Malkangiri district around 3 am on Sunday, leaving several passengers injured.
The bus was carrying 31 people, including 29 passengers, the driver, and a staff member.
At least eight passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a government hospital in Vizianagaram. While some were discharged after receiving primary treatment, others remain under medical supervision.
Preliminary reports suggest the bus’s steering locked while negotiating a turn on a ghat road during a U-turn, causing the vehicle to topple.
Authorities have launched a technical inspection to determine the exact cause of the mishap.
Local residents and emergency responders quickly reached the site to assist in rescue operations.
Passengers who escaped with minor injuries were helped by locals and Andhra Pradesh Police to continue their journey.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety on ghat roads, especially for heavy vehicles operating in the region. Police have initiated an inquiry into the accident.
