Majhi Slams Naveen After Rajya Sabha Election Results
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has sharply criticised former CM and BJD president Naveen Patnaik following the Rajya Sabha election results, where the BJP and its allies secured three of the four seats.
Majhi hailed the outcome as a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and a step toward “developed Odisha” and “Viksit Bharat.”
The BJP’s Manmohan Samal, sitting MP Sujit Kumar, and Independent Dilip Ray (backed by the BJP) emerged victorious, while BJD’s Santrupt Misra won the remaining seat.
The results were marked by significant cross‑voting, prompting Patnaik to label defecting MLAs as “criminals” and remark that their “fathers were in jail.”
Majhi condemned these remarks as immature, undemocratic, and insulting to voters, arguing that BJD’s internal lack of democracy was the real cause of defections.
He reminded that Patnaik had once promoted the same MLAs he now disparaged.
Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Dr Lenin Mohanty defended Patnaik, reiterating allegations of horse‑trading and claiming Odisha’s political image had been tarnished.
The exchange underscores the deepening political rift in the state asthe BJP consolidates its power.
