Maha Snan Conducted at Puri Srimandir Following Temple Purification Rituals

Maha Snan at Puri Srimandir

Puri,( OT Webdesk) May 18, 2025: A Maha Snan (ritual cleansing bath) was performed at the Puri Srimandir today after a devotee reportedly vomited near the Bhitara Katha, one of the temple’s inner sanctums.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) confirmed the incident, stating that the cleansing process was conducted in strict adherence to temple traditions and rituals.

To maintain the sanctity of the temple, the Maha Snan was carried out following the Abakasha rituals, which involve the daily purification of the deities.

As a result, darshan for devotees was temporarily suspended during the cleansing process.

In a related development, the SJTA has recently issued an advisory urging devotees to consume Mahaprasad (sacred food offering) while sitting on the floor rather than dining tables, in accordance with age-old customs.

Temple authorities reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the sanctity and traditions of Srimandir, ensuring a spiritually fulfilling experience for all visitors.
