Lower Indra Dam Gates Opened in Nuapada Due to Heavy Rainfall – Water Level Alert
Nuapada, — In response to persistent rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system, authorities at the Lower Indra Irrigation Project have opened three gates to regulate rising water levels and prevent overflow risks.
According to departmental sources, gates 3, 6, and 8 were opened on Wednesday to manage the inflow, which currently stands at 450 cubic meters per second.
The outflow has reached 474.26 cubic meters per second, with the reservoir level recorded at 264.5 meters.
Executive Engineer Soumya Kishore Jaypuria confirmed that additional gates may be opened if water levels continue to rise.
The move is part of a precautionary strategy to ensure safe water management and protect surrounding areas from potential flooding.
Local residents and farmers have been advised to stay alert as rainfall continues across the region.
