Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal Triggers IMD Alert for Eastern India
Bhubaneswar, September 22 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert following the formation of a low-pressure area over the northeast Bay of Bengal and its adjoining regions.
The system is expected to move west-northwestward within the next 24 hours, potentially bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Odisha, West Bengal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Meteorologists anticipate the emergence of another low-pressure system around September 25, which could intensify into a depression by September 26. This development may result in widespread showers across eastern and southeastern India.
In response, the IMD has advised fishermen to avoid deep-sea areas due to rough conditions. Local administrations have been placed on high alert to prepare for possible waterlogging and storm-related disruptions.
The IMD continues to monitor the evolving system and will issue updates as necessary to ensure public safety.
