Bhubaneswar, May 27, ( OT webdesk): A low-pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal, triggering concerns of heavy rainfall across Odisha.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 15 districts, cautioning residents about intense showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h.
The IMD forecasts that the system will intensify over the next 48 hours, leading to widespread precipitation until May 30.
Although the formation does not pose a cyclone threat, it could accelerate the southwest monsoon’s arrival in Odisha.
State authorities are on high alert, with the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) directing district collectors to ensure emergency response preparedness.
Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea, while residents are urged to follow official safety guidelines.
Odisha’s coastal and interior districts—including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, and others—are likely to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity.
Citizens are encouraged to stay updated with IMD alerts as the situation unfolds.
