Lightning Strike Kills One, Injures Two in Odisha’s Koraput
Koraput — A sudden lightning strike claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman and left two others critically injured in Sukriguda village near the Nalco red mud pond area on Saturday evening.
The deceased, Lingu Jani, was returning home with two women after selling firewood when the lightning struck during an unexpected thunderstorm.
Locals rushed the injured women to Mathalput Community Health Centre, where they remain in critical condition.
Koraput Sadar Police have registered an unnatural death case and initiated a preliminary investigation.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of rural communities to extreme weather events, especially in regions with limited early warning systems.
Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms and follow safety advisories issued by the local administration.
