Laxmi Bus Overturns Near Konark, Passengers Escape Major Harm
Konark, October 30, 2025 — A Laxmi bus en route from Kakata Pur to Konark lost control and overturned near the Sama bridge in the Kadua Panchayat area, narrowly avoiding a major tragedy. The vehicle veered off balance and plunged into the Kadua river, reportedly due to a steering malfunction.
Eyewitnesses and local residents rushed to the scene, helping rescue over ten injured passengers. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, though several sustained minor to moderate injuries and were admitted to nearby hospitals.
The driver claimed the steering failed unexpectedly, causing the bus to swerve uncontrollably. However, locals allege reckless driving may have contributed to the accident. This incident follows a similar brake failure involving another Laxmi bus in Rayagada district just days earlier, raising concerns over the fleet’s safety standards.
Past records show Laxmi buses have been involved in multiple accidents, including fatal ones. In February 2025, a youth was killed in Jagatsinghpur, and in November 2024, a woman lost her life in Nabarangpur district due to similar mishaps.
Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the recurring mechanical failures and driver conduct. Meanwhile, passengers and locals are urging stricter oversight and safety audits of private bus operators across the state.
