Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary Poachers Nabbed with Trap Cameras’ Aid
In a decisive operation, the Odisha Forest Department arrested three poachers inside the Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary in Balasore district.
Acting on intelligence gathered from hidden trap cameras, officials intercepted the suspects near the Panchalingeswar Beat House and later raided the Shyamsundarpur region.
The arrested individuals—Kati Singh and Mangala Singh from Nilagiri, and Natha Singh from Kantabania village—were found carrying country‑made guns, explosives, and other deadly weapons.
Authorities also seized the carcasses of hunted animals, including an Indian porcupine and a jungle mouse.
The use of trap cameras proved crucial in detecting the intruders’ entry into the protected sanctuary, underscoring the growing role of modern surveillance in combating wildlife crimes.
Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its rich biodiversity, including elephants, leopards, and deer species, remains a vital habitat under threat from poaching.
Forest officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to uncover possible larger networks behind the illegal hunting activities.
