Koraput Vigilance Nabs Panchayat Officer Taking Rs 20,000 Bribe
Koraput: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Vigilance Department arrested Amarbar Mallik, Additional Executive Officer (ADEO) of Bodaput Panchayat under Baipariguda Block, while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The arrest took place at his government quarters in Jeypore on December 9.
According to officials, Mallik had demanded the bribe from a local contractor in exchange for issuing a work order for ghat cutting in Gayolkari village under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
He allegedly assured the contractor that payment would be processed only after the bribe was paid.
Acting on the contractor’s complaint, the Jeypore Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Mallik red-handed during the transaction.
Following the arrest, investigators seized incriminating documents and initiated further inquiry to trace additional evidence.
This incident underscores the Vigilance Department’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption in rural development projects across Odisha.
