Koraput: Headmaster Suspended After Lizard Found in Hostel Rice
Students at Baunshput Government High Primary School in the Koraput district fell ill after consuming rice contaminated with a lizard. The shocking incident unfolded when hostel students were served leftover rice stored overnight.
One student discovered a lizard head and bones in her plate, while another found a tail.
Hostel warden Lili Mahanti immediately alerted Headmaster Sadanand Halawa, who contacted medical staff and arranged an ambulance.
Doctors from Bandhugaon Community Health Centre examined the affected students and provided treatment.
Authorities later concluded that negligence in food management caused the contamination.
As a result, the education department suspended Headmaster Halawa, directing him to work at the Block Education Officer’s office during the suspension period.
He cannot leave the office without prior approval from higher authorities.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among parents and community members, highlighting serious lapses in hostel food safety and underscoring the accountability expected from school administrators.
