Koraput Film Tourism Booms as “Comrade Kalyan” Begins Shooting in Odisha’s Scenic Heartland
Koraput, once synonymous with Maoist unrest, is now capturing the imagination of filmmakers across India.
With its lush forests, majestic waterfalls, and serene hillscapes, the district has transformed into a cinematic paradise, drawing crews from Tollywood, Bollywood, and beyond.
Thanks to sustained efforts by central forces and Odisha police, peace has returned to areas like Bairipadar, Lamtaput, Narayanpatna, and Semiliguda.
This security boost has unlocked the region’s potential as a filming destination.
Scenic gems such as Duduma Waterfall, Rani Duduma, Deomali, Tala Mali, and Kolab Reservoir are now regular backdrops for high-profile productions.
Deomali, Odisha’s highest peak, has become a magnet for both tourists and directors.
Last year, acclaimed South Indian filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli shot a bilingual film starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra in Tala Mali and Deomali.
This year, Tollywood director Janekiram Marelli began filming “Comrade Kalyan,” a story inspired by a former Naxalite, across Kolab, Deomali, and Kaliamali.
Local communities are embracing the spotlight, gathering in large numbers to witness shoots and interact with stars. Koraput’s rise on India’s film tourism map is not just a cinematic success—it’s a story of resilience, revival, and regional pride.
