Koraput Embraces Winter’s First Touch: Foggy Hills and Tea Stalls Set the Scene

Koraput district in southern Odisha is experiencing its first brush with winter, transforming the region into a misty, picturesque landscape.

Over the past two days, temperatures have dipped noticeably, bringing a refreshing chill to areas like Narayanpatna, Laxmipur, and Semiliguda.

Locals have begun layering up, and roadside tea stalls are buzzing with early risers seeking warmth and camaraderie over steaming cups of chai.

The fog-covered hilltops and golden morning light have added to the district’s scenic charm, drawing admiration from residents and visitors alike.

“The cold wave has set in after Cyclone Montha. It’s been very cold for the last two days. The forests and mountains are covered with fog and dew—it feels refreshing,” shared a resident of Narayanpatna.

However, the seasonal shift has prompted mixed reactions from farmers.

While the cooler climate may help reduce pest infestations and balance soil moisture, an early cold wave could pose risks to standing crops if temperatures continue to drop sharply.

As Koraput settles into winter’s embrace, the district’s natural beauty and vibrant tea culture offer a comforting start to the season.
