Khurda Road–Balangir Rail Line Nears Completion: CM Majhi Hails Landmark Project

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has hailed the Khurda Road–Balangir rail line project as a historic milestone for the state’s connectivity and development.

Originally surveyed in 1947, the 301‑km line is now in its final stages, promising to transform regional transport and economic opportunities.

The rail corridor will link Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, and Balangir, significantly reducing travel time between Bhubaneswar and western Odisha.

Officials highlight that the project incorporates eco‑sensitive features, including multi-kilometre tunnels, wildlife underpasses, and overpasses to minimise environmental impact.

Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnaw has also praised the project’s transformative potential, noting its role in boosting trade, improving access to education and healthcare, and strengthening livelihoods across the region.

Once operational, the line is expected to be a game‑changer for Odisha’s connectivity and economic growth.
