Khurda: Man Killed in Sudden Elephant Attack, Villagers Demand Safety Measures
A tragic incident unfolded in Khurda’s Tangi forest when a wild elephant attacked three men, killing one and leaving two others shaken but alive.
The victim, Babuli Parida of Narmanavi village, was trampled to death after the elephant suddenly charged from dense bushes. His companions narrowly escaped the rampage.
Babuli had planned to drop his daughter off for her matriculation exam the following day, making the loss even more devastating for his family.
The Tangi forest range shelters over 20 elephants that frequently stray into nearby villages, damaging crops and property.
Local residents have long raised concerns about human-elephant conflict in the area. Following the incident, forest officials assured compensation and support to Babuli’s family.
However, villagers demanded stronger preventive measures to reduce such attacks and safeguard communities living near elephant habitats.
