Karan Johar Joins Legal Battle to Protect Celebrity Rights
Following in the footsteps of Bollywood icons Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, filmmaker Karan Johar has approached the Delhi High Court to safeguard his personal identity from unauthorised commercial use.
Johar is not embroiled in any controversy but seeks legal protection against the use of his name, image, and signature in advertisements and promotional content without consent.
The court has granted interim relief, barring any entity from using Johar’s likeness without explicit permission.
This move echoes similar rulings in favour of Bachchan and Rai, where the court prohibited the use of their images on merchandise and digital platforms, including AI-generated deepfakes and face morphing.
The Delhi High Court’s stance underscores a growing trend among celebrities to assert control over their personal brand and digital identity.
With unauthorised content proliferating across websites and social media, legal action is becoming a necessary tool for public figures to maintain their reputations.
This wave of litigation is expected to inspire more Bollywood stars to follow suit, signaling a shift in how celebrity rights are protected in the digital age.
