Bhubaneswar, May 1, 2025(OT Webdesk): The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for seven districts and a yellow warning for 23 districts across Odisha today, highlighting potential thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall triggered by Kalbaisakhi, the seasonal Nor’wester storms.
Districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Jajpur are under the orange alert, urging residents to exercise extreme caution. Meanwhile, the yellow alert extends to other areas, anticipating rainfall with lightning.
In an advisory, the IMD emphasised the need for preparedness among citizens during this volatile weather pattern. Adding to the woes, a heatwave is expected to return in two days, with temperatures projected to rise by 2–4°C within 48 hours.
This dual threat of Kalbaisakhi and heatwave poses a challenge for Odisha, making it imperative for residents and officials to stay vigilant. Temporary relief from heat may be short-lived for some regions, while others prepare for intensified summer conditions.
Stay tuned to updates from the IMD for timely information and safety measures.
