Kalahandi, Odisha – June 8, ( Newshub Desk)In a startling development, Dhiman Chakma, Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh, Kalahandi, was caught red-handed accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe from a local businessman at his official residence.

The operation, conducted by Odisha Vigilance, exposed Chakma’s alleged demand for a total sum of Rs 20 lakh, threatening business disruptions if payment was not made.

Authorities apprehended Chakma while counting 26 bundles of cash before stashing the money in his desk drawer. Chemical tests confirmed the presence of marked currency, cementing the corruption charges against him.

Further searches at his residence uncovered Rs 47 lakh in cash, intensifying suspicions of a larger network of financial misconduct.

Odisha Vigilance has registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended 2018), and investigations are underway to trace additional assets linked to the accused.

The arrest has sparked widespread condemnation, highlighting concerns over corruption within bureaucratic circles. Officials assure that stringent action will be taken as the inquiry progresses.
