Justice Demanded: BJD Shuts Down Nabarangpur Over Nursing Student’s Death
Nabarangpur, (OT Webdesk)— August 11, 2025: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a 12-hour bandh in Raighar block of Nabarangpur district on Monday, demanding justice and Rs 1 crore compensation for the family of a second-year BSc nursing student who died under tragic circumstances.
The student had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar for 24 days after allegedly consuming pesticide, following an assault by a youth identified as Satyajit Sarkar. She succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
BJD leader Pradeep Majhi accused local police of negligence and delay in action, which he claimed contributed to the student’s death.
The party also demanded the arrest of another accused linked to a viral photo circulating in connection with the case.
From 6 am to 6 pm, shops, markets, and transport services were shut across Raighar block, while emergency services remained operational.
Protesters blocked roads at key junctions, including Hanuman Mandir Square, bringing traffic to a standstill.
The victim’s body was returned to her native village, Dumurimunda, under tight security. Her family has refused to perform last rites until their demands are met.
BJD has warned of continued agitation until all accused are arrested and justice is delivered
