Jharsuguda: Tragedy Strikes as 5 Policemen Killed in Road Mishap
In a devastating accident outside Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station, five police personnel lost their lives, and three others sustained critical injuries when a speeding tipper truck rammed into their Bolero vehicle in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased officers have been identified as Kashiram Bhoi (APR), Niranjan Kujur (Drill Sub-Inspector), Debadatta Sa (APR), Lingaraj Dhurua (APR Havildar), and Bhaktabandhu Mirdha (Home Guard).
The injured—Dubaraj Mirig (APR), Akash Naik (APR), and Rajiv Bharsagar (Sergeant)—are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck approached at high speed from the opposite direction, crushing the Bolero and trapping the officers inside. Local residents rushed to the scene, assisting in rescue operations and helping police teams recover the bodies.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the district police force and the wider community. Authorities have launched an investigation into possible driver negligence or mechanical failure.
