Jharsuguda Gas Cylinder Explosion Injures Hotel Owner and Wife
Jharsuguda: Panic gripped Kolabira village in Jharsuguda district on Thursday morning after a powerful gas cylinder explosion left two people critically injured.
According to reports, Surendra Tandkar, owner of Hotel Shakuntala, and his wife were heating water when the cylinder caught fire and exploded. Flames engulfed both victims, causing severe burn injuries.
Family members rushed them to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors provided first aid before referring them to IGH, Rourkela, for advanced treatment.
Medical authorities later confirmed that both are stable but remain under close observation.
The blast was so intense that it shattered nearby windows and doors, sparking panic among locals. Officials suspect a gas leak or a technical fault triggered the fire.
Police and fire personnel inspected the site, and a detailed investigation is underway.
This incident highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and safety measures in households and commercial establishments using LPG cylinders.
