Ganjam, Odisha: Twelve passengers, including school students and women, were injured after an auto rickshaw overturned at Jarau Ghat in Ganjam district on Monday.
The vehicle lost balance while negotiating a slope, hit an electric pole, and plunged nearly 10 feet down the hillside.
According to eyewitnesses, parents from four villages had hired rickshaws to transport their children to an Ashram school in Gadgad.
One of the vehicles overturned during the journey, leaving five passengers critically injured.
Ambulances from Badagad and Mohana reached the accident site promptly, shifting the injured to Badagad Medical.
The five critical cases were later referred to Berhampur Medical College for advanced treatment.
Mohan police have launched an investigation into the incident, which once again raises concerns about road safety in the hilly terrains of Odisha.
