Janjatiya Gaurav Divas: Odisha Governor Honors Tribal Legacy, Celebrates State Foundation Days
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati emphasised the importance of unity in diversity during a special celebration at Raj Bhavan marking Janjatiya Gaurav Divas (Tribal Pride Day) alongside the foundation days of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand.
The Governor paid tribute to legendary tribal leader Birsa Munda, whose struggle against British oppression continues to inspire justice and equality.
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision in instituting the day to honour unsung tribal heroes and strengthen national pride.
Highlighting the cultural richness of Uttarakhand, described as Devbhoomi (Land of Gods), Dr. Kambhampati lauded its Garhwali and Kumaoni traditions rooted in spirituality and harmony with nature.
He also celebrated Jharkhand as the Land of Forests, the birthplace of Birsa Munda, and home to vibrant tribal dances like Chhau and Paika.
Odisha was positioned as a shining example of inclusivity, from the message of peace after the Kalinga War to the spiritual legacy of Lord Jagannath and the grandeur of Konark. “Odishans have always welcomed others with open hearts, reflecting the belief that the world is one family,” the Governor said.
The event featured cultural performances from Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Odisha, a short film on Birsa Munda, and a video message from Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh. A two-minute silence was observed for the victims of the recent Delhi terrorist attack.
The Governor concluded by urging citizens to strengthen the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, affirming that India’s greatest strength lies in its unity amid diversity.
