Jagatsinghpur Gang-Rape Case Sparks Outrage as Prime Accused Arrested
Jagatsinghpur, (OT Webdesk)— A horrific gang-rape incident involving a young Scheduled Caste woman has triggered widespread outrage across Odisha.
The crime occurred in Chandgaon Majurai during the victim’s visit to a birthday dinner.
The prime accused, Priti Ranjan Behera alias Chiku (23), was arrested from Niali, with further arrests expected as three police teams intensify their investigation.
Scientific teams recovered critical evidence from the crime scene, including blood stains and objectionable items. The survivor’s medical examination and statement have been recorded, confirming the brutality of the assault.
Political leaders from BJD, Congress, and BJP visited the survivor at the district hospital, condemning the incident and demanding swift justice.
Prominent figures such as ex-Congress MLA Lalatendu Mahapatra and Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das criticised the state government for failing to curb rising violence against women.
The case, registered under FIR No. 537/25 at Sadar Police Station, has become a flashpoint in Odisha’s debate on women’s safety. Political parties have warned of statewide protests if justice is delayed.
