Puri, June 12,(OT Webdesk): Following the grandeur of the Snana Yatra, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra have entered their annual seclusion period known as Anasara at the revered Puri Srimandir.
After being ceremonially bathed with 108 pitchers of sacred water on June 11, the divine siblings are believed to fall ill, marking the commencement of their retreat in the Anasara Ghara.
During this phase, devotees are unable to view the deities, as they undergo spiritual restoration through intricate healing rituals performed by the Daitapati servitors.
The Anasara Seva is a deeply symbolic set of rituals that mimics the healing process of human beings. Highlights include:
- Anasara Panchami: Application of Phuluri oil, a herbal blend of sesame oil, sandalwood, and camphor.
- Sasthi to Navami: Treatment using Osua paste, composed of resin, sesame oil, and natural medicinal ingredients.
- Ekadasi Ritual: Idols are treated with sandalwood, saffron, and camphor for rejuvenation.
- Banak Lagi Ceremony: A special repainting process to restore the facial features of the deities.
- Final Restoration on Amavasya: The idols regain their vibrant youth and are presented for Navajouban Darshan, a symbolic renewal before their grand chariot procession during Rath Yatra.
With the sacred restoration underway, devotees eagerly await the deities’ resurgence, culminating in the world-famous Rath Yatra festival, which celebrates their divine journey to the Gundicha Temple.
