Interstate drug, gun-running racket busted in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 6 (UNI) Police in Odisha’s Bargarh district today busted an interstate gun running and drug trafficking racket by arresting 15 accused persons, including three from Chhattisgarh.
Acting on a tipoff regarding the transportation, possession and sale of illegal cough syrup and firearms, a major operation was launched. Seven police teams, comprising officers from five police stations besides the special police squad, were deployed to conduct simultaneous raids at multiple locations across the district.

As many as 15 accused persons, including three natives of Chhattisgarh, were arrested during the simultaneous raids.

The arrested persons are members of an inter-state criminal gang involved in drug trafficking and arms smuggling across Odisha and neighbouring states, said Superintendent of Police, Bargarh, Prahlad Sahai Meena.
All 15 accused persons have been arrested and were remanded to judicial custody.
Further investigation is underway to trace the modus operandi network of this inter-state gang and identify their suppliers, associates, and distribution routes, Meena added
