Internet Shutdown in Cuttack Extended: Odisha Govt Cites Public Safety

Cuttack, — October 6, 2025: The Odisha government has extended internet restrictions across key areas of Cuttack for another 24 hours, effective from 7:00 PM on October 6 to 7:00 PM on October 7.

The decision, issued by the Home Department, aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain public order amid rising concerns over social media misuse.

The digital blackout affects mobile data services, broadband connections, and popular platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Snapchat.

The restricted zones include the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Cuttack Development Authority (CDA), and the 42 Mauza region.

Essential services such as OSWAN, NIC Net, NKN, banking, and railway networks remain operational. Authorities have warned that any violation of the order may invite legal consequences under applicable laws.

This move follows recent unrest triggered by viral content and unverified claims circulating online, prompting the government to take preemptive action to safeguard public safety.
