Intense rainfall and fog engulf Odisha districts following Diwali

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: On Friday morning, the capital city of Bhubaneswar, along with the districts of Cuttack, Jajpur, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Bhadrak, experienced intense rainfall.
The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for light to moderate rain and thundershowers, accompanied by lightning, in parts of Khurda district, including Bhubaneswar, valid until 11:30 AM. A similar warning was also issued for Cuttack, including the city, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal until 10:30 AM.
Residents were urged to monitor weather updates closely and to move to safer locations to protect themselves from potential lightning strikes. Senior IMD scientist Umashankar Das commented on the situation, describing the post-Diwali showers as “ashirbaad” (blessing), noting that the rainfall would help wash away air pollution that tends to accumulate during the festival celebrations.
In addition to the rainfall, the IMD reported dense fog covering several areas, including Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, and Boudh, contributing to reduced visibility and cooler temperatures throughout the region.
