India Successfully Test-Fires Nuclear-Capable Agni-5 Missile, Reinforcing Strategic Deterrence

(OT Webdesk)In a major stride for India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired the nuclear-capable Agni-5 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha.

Conducted under the Strategic Forces Command, the launch validated all operational and technical parameters, marking a significant boost to India’s strategic deterrence posture.

The Agni-5 missile, with an estimated range of 5,000–7,000 kilometres, is designed to carry a payload exceeding 1.5 tons, including nuclear warheads.

Notably, its multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicle (MIRV) capability—first demonstrated in 2023—enables it to strike multiple targets with precision, enhancing its effectiveness against regional threats.

Developed as part of the Agni missile series initiated in 1983, Agni-5’s journey began in 2007, culminating in its first successful test in 2012.

Today’s flawless execution reaffirms India’s growing prowess in indigenous missile technology and its role as a key player in global defence dynamics.
