India Issues High-Risk Cyber Alert for Users: CERT-In Urges Immediate Update

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4, 2025 — The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has issued a high-severity cybersecurity advisory targeting Google Chrome users across India.

The alert, released on October 30, warns of multiple vulnerabilities that could allow remote attackers to steal sensitive data, bypass security protocols, and gain unauthorised access to systems.

According to CERT-In, the flaws affect Chrome’s core components, including the V8 JavaScript engine, Autofill, Extensions, and Omnibox.

Technical issues such as type confusion, race conditions, and use-after-free errors have been identified, posing serious risks to users on Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.

Affected Versions:

  • Linux: Chrome versions prior to 142.0.7444.59
  • Windows/macOS: Versions prior to 142.0.7444.59/60

CERT-In has strongly advised users to update Chrome immediately to the latest version to mitigate potential threats. For Windows and macOS users, updates can be accessed via Chrome’s Settings → About Chrome. Linux users are urged to update via their package manager or Google’s official repository.

With Chrome being one of the most widely used browsers in India, the vulnerabilities represent a significant national cybersecurity concern. Users are encouraged to act swiftly to protect their data and systems from exploitation.
