India Issues Bay of Bengal NOTAM for Possible Missile Test Off Odisha Coast (Dec 6–8)
India has declared a temporary no‑fly zone over a large stretch of the Bay of Bengal between December 6 and December 8, 2025, raising expectations of a strategic missile test off the Odisha coast.
According to the advisory, the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) restricts both air and maritime traffic across nearly 1,480 km from 12:30 UTC on December 6 to 15:30 UTC on December 8.
Such alerts are standard safety protocols designed to safeguard civilian and commercial operations during defence trials.
The designated zone aligns with India’s established testing patterns from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Balasore district, which has hosted several significant missile trials this year.
These include successful launches of Prithvi‑II and Agni‑I under the Strategic Forces Command, as well as the upgraded Agni Prime tested from a rail‑based platform in September.
The latest NOTAM adds to a series of military advisories this month.
The Indian Air Force has scheduled an exercise in Rajasthan near the Pakistan frontier (Dec 3–6), while another alert was issued for the Northeast region during a large‑scale drill near the borders with China, Myanmar, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
Together, these developments highlight India’s active operational calendar and reinforce Odisha’s role as a hub for strategic defence programmes.
