Income Tax Raids Target Properties Linked to Late Odisha Minister Naba Das

Naba Das income tax raid

Bhubaneswar, June 19(OT Webdesk): In a sweeping crackdown, the Income Tax Department conducted simultaneous raids on more than 20 properties associated with slain Odisha minister Naba Kishore Das.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, focused on suspected large-scale tax evasion.

According to official sources, the searches targeted residences and offices in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and New Delhi.

More than 20 IT teams were deployed, with officials reportedly seizing important documents and digital evidence.

Among the locations searched were properties linked to Das’s family members and close associates.

The late minister’s Jharsuguda residence witnessed a heavy presence of investigating teams.

These raids follow an earlier operation this year in Sambalpur, which concentrated on the assets of Brajakishore Das, Naba Das’s brother and a super-class contractor.

Naba Das, a former Congress leader who later joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), had been a dominant political figure in western Odisha before his assassination in January 2023.

The renewed tax scrutiny has ignited political speculation, especially given his controversial legacy and growing clout before his death.

Authorities say the raids are part of ongoing efforts to trace undisclosed income and hidden assets.
