IMD Weather Warning for Odisha: Thunderstorms, Rain Forecast Till July 30

Bhubaneswar, July 27(OT webdesk): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall through July 30.

The advisory comes amid an active weather system linked to a low-pressure trough extending from northwest Madhya Pradesh to northeast Bangladesh.

According to IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre, light to moderate showers are expected across North and South Odisha, with intensified activity in districts like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh.

Gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h may accompany the thunderstorms.

The marine advisory cautions fishermen against venturing into the North Bay of Bengal and Odisha coasts on July 27 and 28 due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.

  • Sunday (Till July 28, 8:30 AM): Light/moderate rain in North Odisha; isolated showers in South Odisha.
  • Monday (July 28–29): Thunderstorms likely in 16 districts, including Cuttack, Balasore, and Keonjhar.
  • Tuesday (July 29–30): Widespread rain in North Odisha; moderate showers in South. Heavy rain is expected in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, as waterlogging has already impacted several regions.
