IMD Predicts Low Pressure Over Bay of Bengal, Depression Likely by November 24

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea within the next 24 hours.

According to weather scientist Uma Shankar Das, a cyclonic circulation over the Malacca Strait, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level, is expected to trigger the system.

The developing low-pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 24. It is projected to move west-northwest and may further strengthen over the southwest Bay of Bengal within 48 hours.

However, experts remain cautious about whether the system will evolve into a cyclonic storm. Multiple weather models have attempted to predict its trajectory and intensity, but no clear consensus has emerged.

Meanwhile, farmers across Odisha are growing increasingly anxious. With mature paddy crops standing in the fields, they fear that heavy rainfall or a cyclone towards the end of November could cause significant damage to their harvests.
