IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Across Odisha Till July 3 Amid Fresh Bay Low Pressure
Bhubaneswar(OT Webdesk): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread heavy rainfall across Odisha till July 3, triggered by a fresh low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Bangladesh by June 29, which is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area within 24 hours.
The IMD has issued multiple weather warnings for districts across Odisha.
A Yellow Warning has been sounded for 16 districts, including Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, with anticipated thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 40 kmph. An Orange Warning for very heavy rainfall will impact regions like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, and Kandhamal through July 1–2.
Authorities have placed local administrations on high alert, urging residents to avoid non-essential travel and adhere to safety protocols.
Farmers have been advised to protect standing crops to mitigate potential agricultural losses.
Precautions are also being taken to manage urban waterlogging, landslides in hilly areas, and traffic snarls in flood-prone zones.
The monsoon activity, influenced by the evolving system in the Bay, is expected to intensify, raising the likelihood of flood-like conditions in vulnerable districts.
