IMD Issues Yellow Warning for 20 Odisha Districts Amid Monsoon Surge
(OT Webdesk)The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for 20 districts in Odisha as monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
Districts including Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Sambalpur, and Mayurbhanj are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds until at least August 8.
Wind speeds may reach 30–40 kmph, raising concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and minor structural damage.
Authorities have advised fishermen and residents in low-lying or vulnerable areas to remain indoors and exercise caution.
The IMD attributes the surge in rainfall to active monsoon conditions and moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal.
While the showers are likely to benefit agriculture and groundwater levels, risks of localised flooding and lightning strikes remain high.
