IMD Issues Yellow Warning as Cyclonic System Intensifies Over Bay of Bengal

(OT Webdesk)The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow warning for several districts in Odisha as a cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal intensifies.

The system is expected to evolve into a low-pressure area within 24 hours, triggering heavy rainfall and gusty winds across the state.

Districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada are likely to witness intense downpours today, accompanied by thunder and lightning in isolated pockets.

Wind speeds may reach 30–40 km/h, with further intensification anticipated in the coming days.

Meteorological models suggest that rainfall will peak around July 27, bringing widespread showers to most regions of Odisha.

The weather system is believed to be a remnant of Cyclone Wipha and may regain strength upon re-entering the Bay of Bengal.

Authorities have urged residents, especially in flood-prone and hilly areas, to remain vigilant as sustained weather activity is expected through the week.
